Chiropractic Adjustment
When it comes to chiropractic care, people are probably most familiar with, or have at least heard about, spinal adjustments, which is also sometimes referred to as spinal manipulation.
This popular treatment is both preventative and helps relieve pain.
Proper spinal manipulation quickly performs a series of functions:
- Inhibits the nerves’ pain pathways and increases healthy impulse transmission
- Reduces muscle tension and inflammation
- Arrests muscular spasm
- Promotes healing circulation to tight, constricted muscles and other soft tissues; aids in flushing trapped pain chemicals
- Helps restore body balance and coordination
- Improves mobility and increases range of motion
- Enhances peak performance
In fact, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association supports the use of spinal manipulative therapy as a first line of treatment for acute low back pain.
According to the American Chiropractic Association, “The purpose of spinal manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for an individual. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, allowing tissues to heal.”
“Chiropractic adjustment rarely causes discomfort. However, patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment (as with some forms of exercise) that usually resolves within 12 to 48 hours. Compared to other common treatments for pain, such as over-the-counter and prescription pain medications, chiropractic’s conservative approach offers a safe and effective option.”

Also called “cold laser therapy,” low-level laser therapy is true laser light applied to the affected area, which causes tissue healing and repair by stimulation at the cellular level. The wavelength produced by laser light causes excitation at the cellular level, including acceleration of adenosine triphosphate (A.T.P.), which speeds healingand repair. Patients may feel a slight warming at the site, but no pain is associated with this procedure.
Decompression Therapy
Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Also called Interferential Therapy, this treatment utilizes electrical stimulation to decrease muscle spasm and contracture. Electrical Muscle Stimulation also decreases pain and swelling, while increasing circulation. Patients will feel a slight tingling sensation on the skin surface, but without pain.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Therapeutic Ultrasound is a soundwave introduced into the body through a coupling agent. A non-staining gel is used to allow the sound wave to transfer into the tissue from the ultrasound head. This therapy reduces pain and increases circulation to the area treated. The patient should feel a soothing warmth in the region of treatment.
